The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research is a premier institute dedicated to research and teaching in the basic sciences, with vision of Make learning of basic sciences exciting through excellent integrative teaching driven by curiosity and creativity. IISER also provide entry into research at an early age through a flexible borderless curriculum and research projects. For this high quality scientific education, research and training, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHR D), has set up seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati.
It is a five year degree program for bright and motivated science students who have passed (10+2) level. The program integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the program consist of core courses in basic sciences, the third and fourth years are dedicated to specialization in chosen science subjects and the fifth year includes a research project.
There are three channels of admission:
1. Joint Entrance Examination of Indian Institutes of Technology (JEE) channel.
Conducted by IIT.
2. State and Central Boards Channel (SCB) channel:
Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream in 2018 or 2019 with marks equal or above the cut off percentage in their respective boards are eligible to apply.
Students applying through SCB channel will have to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test which will be conducted at various centers across the country.

About SA, SB and SX in KVPY
Since students from Class XI, Class XII and first year students in undergraduate program in Basic Sciences are eligible to apply for KVPY, the examination is divided into three streams:
Stream SA has students who are in class XI Standard during the academic year in which KVPY is conducted. They have to give SA Test. (Must have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination. Must have secured a minimum of 60% (50%for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard/(+2) Board Examination.)
Stream SX has students who are in class XII Standard during the academic year in which KVPY is conducted. They have to give SX/SB Test. (Must have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination. Must have secured a minimum of 60% (50%for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination.)
Stream SB has students who are in 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic Sciences during the academic year in which KVPY is conducted. They have to give SX/SB Test. (Must have secured a minimum of 60% (50%for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Mathematics) in the XII Standard Board Examination. Must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./M.S. before taking up the fellowship, if awarded).
There is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test. The aptitude test aims to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student than his/her factual knowledge. However, students are tested for the syllabus up to class X/XII/1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. as applicable.

KVPY Selection Procedure
KVPY is administered by the Indian Institute of Science. Selection of the students in KVPY is made from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research.
IISc will conduct an?aptitude test for KVPY?at various centers in the country to screen applications. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
For receiving a KVPY scholarship or fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered.
The merit list is based on 75% weightage for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weightage for the interview marks in the streams SA, SB and SX.
The Above KVPY Information is collected and complied by COEPians AcademyTM from the information available on the Internet.
