About the NEET Examination

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is India’s central medical entrance examination, conducted each year by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is the mandatory gateway for students who wish to pursue undergraduate medical and dental courses such as MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH programmes (including BAMS, BUMS, BHMS), whether in government institutions, private colleges, or medical universities abroad.

By directive of the Government of India, qualifying NEET is compulsory for any student aiming to study medicine within the country or to obtain primary medical qualification overseas.

Formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), NEET (UG) has evolved into the single national-level entrance exam for medical aspirants. It is conducted once a year,in offline (pen-and-paper) mode.

Every year, nearly 20 lakh students compete for approximately 90,000 seats, half of which lie in private colleges. With only one attempt and a limited number of seats, NEET demands clarity of concepts, consistent discipline, and focused long-term preparation.
